Nationals Member for Monaro John Barilaro has joined Snowy Mountains BMX President John Graham to announce more than $290,000 for stage two of the new track at the Jindabyne Sport and Recreation Centre.
Mr Barilaro said the additional funding would support further construction which includes sealing the track with its final coat of sealant, installing bitumen onto all corners, constructing and installing a commentary tower, start hill cover and finish line structure.
“The Snowy Mountains is iconic as a must see winter destination but we know it has so much to offer all year round,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The new track is a major drawcard for BMX enthusiasts from across the region as well as further afield, boasting large, long straights, big jumps and a barrel start gate to cater for riders of all levels.
“BMX is becoming an increasingly popular global sport, making its Olympics debut this year in Tokyo. This track will ensure our home grown talent is competitive on the world stage.”
Funding will also be used to install a timing system, a new storage container and finishing up all maintenance and landscaping required to bring the track up to the recommended standards.
John Graham said the additional funding from the NSW Government would help build on the existing a track that can facilitate state and national level races.
“The BMX track has been designed and constructed by the best in the business,” Mr Graham said.
“We would like to thank Mr Barilaro and the team at the Jindabyne Sport and Recreation Centre for their ongoing support to build this facility.
“There has been so much support for this locally and it is fantastic that we will now be able to put the finishing touches on this project.”
Funding is thanks to NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund which has delivered more than $4 million across the Monaro.
