Adventure is abounding in Junee with a new park now open for children to enjoy in time for the school holidays.
NSW Nationals Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke opened the project, which was made possible through a $200,000 grant from the My Community Project program, and a further $126,000 from the Junee Shire Council.
Ms Cooke said the finished product was a drawcard for local families and visitors.
“We now have this amazing precinct here in Junee which is a must-see for everyone visiting the region,” Ms Cooke said.
“The work that has been undertaken has created a dynamic play space that enables children to explore and test their skills.
“The My Community Project program allowed the electorate to vote for where they wanted this funding to be spent, and the result is a dynamic community space that is purpose built for, and by, the people of Junee.”
Junee Shire Council Director of Engineering Services Cole Davis said the Adventure Park was an asset for the entire community.
“This means we have a full facility set up at Laurie Daly Oval; we’ve got fishing, shade and the adventure playground and it’s an open space that’s got everything for Junee. It’s a one stop shop for the entire family,” Mr Davis said.
“We couldn’t have done this without NSW Government funding and we are very grateful to Steph.
“I was like a big kid building it – we used established trees as part of it and turned the path in to a roadway to educate kids about road safety. We are also incorporating an Indigenous theme in to the park, we got some sandstone blocks donated which will be carved and we will be creating a yarning circle.
“We did a working bee with high school students so they have been part of the build too, we’ve involved the whole community.”
