Nationals Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway has joined Nationals candidate for Monaro Nichole Overall to mark the commencement of work on the $10 million upgrade of Captains Flat Road.
Mrs Overall said the much-needed upgrade is another example of the NSW Nationals delivering on commitments for regional communities and would ensure a safer journey for road users.
“More than 2,000 vehicles travel along Captains Flat Road every day and right now we know the road is just not up to scratch for motorists,” Mrs Overall said.
“The NSW Nationals in government committed to deliver $10 million for the upgrade of this critical road and today an important milestone has been reached with works commencing.
“It is great to have the Minister here to show him exactly what we are achieving for the people of Monaro and thanks to this upgrade residents and families will soon have a smoother and safer journey to and from Captains Flat.”
Mr Farraway said he was pleased to see the work begin, with drainage and shoulder widening to be delivered during the first stage of the project.
“There is a total of 21.5 kilometres of upgrades from the intersection of Briars Sharrow Road to Captains Flat which will be rehabilitated,” Mr Farraway said.
“Initial works which start today will include 18.2 kilometres of road upgrades with improved drainage, widening and stabilisation works.
“Captains Flat Road is a priority for the Nationals and it is great to see Nichole Overall continuing to deliver on the commitment made by John Barilaro in 2019.”
The project will include realigning sections of road along with significant reconstruction and strengthening works. The project is expected to be complete in 2023.
