The Riverina has produced some of the finest athletes in the country, and now the stage is set for that proud tradition to continue with funding from the NSW Nationals in Government.
Wagga Wagga’s Oasis Aquatic Centre is a hub for competitive swimming meets and hosts major State and National competitions without the professional equipment that their metropolitan counterparts enjoy. Now Wagga Wagga Swim Club and surrounding clubs in the Riverina are in line for an upgrade.
Wes Fang, Duty MLC for Wagga Wagga, said that no matter where you come from, you should have the same access and opportunities as those from the bigger cities.
“I am delighted to announce that the Wagga Wagga Swim Club will be receiving nearly $60,000 to upgrade the starting platforms, timing system scoreboard and backstroke ledges at the Oasis Aquatic Centre,” Mr Fang said.
“This equipment upgrade will allow young regional swimmers from both Wagga and surrounding areas within the Riverina to train and use equipment that is used at all major competitions.
“The Nationals in Government recognise that to keep our regions strong, we need to keep our communities strong. By contributing towards the Wagga Wagga Swim Club’s future success, we are investing in the future of our community.”
Paul Gianniotis, Wagga Wagga Swim Club President, said: “We are very appreciative of the support received from the NSW Government through the SCCF Grant. The funds received will be going towards equipment which the club could not otherwise afford, and enables us to offer facilities to our members and community that will now match our metropolitan counterparts.”
