Residents and visitors will soon experience safer journeys through the village of Jugiong with a reduction in speed limits.
NSW Nationals Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the changes were the result of a comprehensive review of speed zones on Riverside Drive, following an increase in pedestrian and vehicle volumes and in response to concerns from the community.
“Jugiong has become known as one of the Hume Highway’s hidden gems and is a favourite stop for travellers between Sydney and Melbourne,” Ms Cooke said.
“To ensure the village is safer for everyone a number of Riverside Drive speed zones have been reviewed and will be reduced.
“This will provide better safety for all road users, residents and travellers, with a minimal increase to journey times.”
Speed zone changes to come into effect from Friday, June 5 include:
- A reduction from 100 km/h to 80km/h from the town’s northern Hume Highway intersection to about 50 metres north of Sheahan Street;
- The installation of two 40 km/h high pedestrian areas; one on Riverside Drive 50 metres north of Sheahan Street to 50 metres south of Jugiong Road and the other on Jugiong Road between Stapylton Street and Riverside Drive;
- A reduction from 90 km/h to 80 km/h on Riverside Drive south of Jugiong Road to the Hume Highway.
Signs will be in place to advise motorists of the changed traffic conditions. Road users are asked to keep an eye out for the changes.
