Construction manager and Clarence Town local David Layzell has been preselected as the NSW Nationals candidate for Upper Hunter in the upcoming by-election.
David is a hardworking local with a proven track record of working in the community to create a safer and stronger Upper Hunter.
Mr Layzell said he was passionate about protecting local jobs, listening to people and finding common-sense solutions.
“The NSW Nationals have delivered for the region over the last ten years in government, but there’s always more to be done,” Mr Layzell said.
“I believe in supporting locals – local jobs, local families, and local businesses – and unlocking every opportunity for the Upper Hunter to succeed.
“I want to be part of the team that will make sure jobs are protected and families are kept safe, I’m honoured to be preselected as the NSW Nationals candidate.”
Mr Layzell said that while keeping COVID away had been a great achievement for the NSW Nationals in government, this by-election would be fought on local issues.
“The NSW Nationals in government have kept COVID away, keeping our families and jobs safe,” he said.
“This election will be fought on local issues, and central to that is strong mining and agriculture industries so people continue to have secure jobs.
“The Nationals have a history of fighting for local issues, and I intend to continue that legacy.”
Leader of the NSW Nationals and Deputy Premier of NSW John Barilaro said the NSW Nationals are building a safer and stronger regional NSW and are the only Party that can represent the diverse needs of the communities within the Upper Hunter.
“David is a proud member of this community and I know he will represent this electorate with the utmost integrity,” Mr Barilaro.
“The focus of the NSW Nationals is to support jobs, boost industry, keep the cost of living at an all-time low and ensure the Upper Hunter remains a safe and strong part of the state. I am confident David shares these goals.
“The Labor-Shooters alliance has actively voted against mines, voted against support for farmers and they have tried to discredit our grants programs which have invested tens of millions of dollars in the Upper Hunter.
“The NSW Nationals will continue to support the mining sector and the agricultural sector in the Upper Hunter while providing valuable jobs that will keep money in the local economy.”
