NSW Nationals Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh has welcomed funding from the state government to help with the staging of a multicultural event in the local community.
Mr Singh said the Multicultural Community Support Grants Program was supporting Prabhakara with its project called Cultural Hub Community Takeover: From Early Settlers to Bollywood Brides.
This will be held at the Coffs Coast Cultural Hub at Coffs Central from April 23 over five weeks.
“This is an exhibition and live music event featuring cultural artefacts from the local Sikh Punjabi history which forms a strong part of the Coffs Coast identity,” Mr Singh said.
“It’s been so long since many of us have come together for an event or festival in our local community. This special event will bring us together and celebrate our diverse local community.”
Minister for Multiculturalism Geoff Lee has announced more than $1 million for multicultural projects, festivals and events across NSW in the latest round of grants.
“These grants assist many outstanding volunteer and community groups which deliver important services, activities, festivals and events to our diverse communities,” Mr Lee said.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the strength and resilience of our multicultural society and how much we can achieve when we work together.
“These grants will continue to support our diverse communities to ensure every member of our society can participate and thrive.”
