The NSW Nationals in the federal government are helping Ballina Byron Gateway Airport create jobs and improve access for those using it.
NSW Nationals Member for Page Kevin Hogan recently turned the first sod on the $10 million Airport Boulevard project.
“These new works include the construction of Airport Boulevard, extension of and connection to Boeing Avenue, connection to North Creek Road and construction of three roundabouts,” Mr Hogan said.
“Once complete, the road will provide an impressive entrance to the airport and will unlock new land for the expansion of the Southern Cross Industrial Estate.
“It is expected this project will support 36 jobs during construction, and up to 500 further jobs could be created as a result of new businesses being established.”
Ballina Shire Council Mayor David Wright said this project was important as it supported jobs in the region.
“Every single person who arrives here, especially tourists, support jobs in our community,” Cr Wright said.
“This is exciting, not only for Ballina, but for the entire Northern Rivers.
“The project will increase availability and access to industrial land and provide opportunities to attract and retain investment in the local community.”
The NSW Nationals in the federal government committed $3 million towards this project and Ballina Shire Council will provide the remaining $6.7 million.
