The NSW Nationals in Government are offering up to 50 scholarships worth $3000 to junior doctors embarking on careers as Rural Generalists in regional, rural and remote NSW.
Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said the new scholarships, available on the Coffs Coast, will be awarded to junior doctors who start advanced skills training in the NSW Rural Generalist Medical Training Program (RGTP).
“The Rural Generalist Medical Training Program plays a key role in developing a medical workforce with advanced skills to serve our local communities,” Mr Singh said.
“We welcome the introduction of these new scholarships to further encourage and support trainees to embark on fulfilling rural careers with exposure to a wide, varied and interesting range of clinical practice.”
In 2020 at Coffs Harbour, the Mid North Coast Local Health District has a range of RGTP positions available in speciality areas such as obstetrics, emergency and palliative care.
“Successful applicants will join a passionate cohort of health professionals in our local health district who are committed to providing our local communities with access to quality and specialised healthcare that’s close to home,” Mr Singh said.
“We encourage Junior Doctors considering a rural career to apply.”
Recruitment continues for 2020, with trainees commencing advanced skills training through HETI’s RGTP in 2020 receiving the $3000 scholarship. Those already recruited for 2020 will also receive the scholarship.
The statewide Rural Generalist Medical Training Program, managed by the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI), provides trainees with advanced skills in the areas of anaesthetics, obstetrics, mental health, palliative care, emergency medicine and paediatrics.
Up to 50 RGTP positions are available in 2020.
