Water security in our drying climate is vital for the growth of our regions – to supply quality drinking water as well as ensuring businesses and farms can maximise their potential.
The NSW Nationals support initiatives to ensure water supply, licences and environmental flows are sustainable and fair for everyone. We also back programs and initiatives encouraging and helping greater water efficiency and improving the health of our surface and sub-surface waterways.
Water has an enormous potential to diversify regional economies and boost production outside traditional growing areas. We are committed to exploring, finding, and using water sustainably to grow output and supply economic opportunities.
Building more dams
The NSW Nationals in Government are supporting our regional communities experiencing one of the worst droughts on record.
Backed by our $4.2 billion Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund, we are boosting funding for water security, prioritising investment into dams, weirs, and pipelines.
Our first major water projects are raising the wall of Wyangala Dam, delivering water security and flood mitigation for residents and farmers along the Lachlan River and building the new Dungowan Dam.
