Concept plans have been unveiled for the new Tamworth University of New England campus.
Nationals Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson, has announced the architectural designs have gone on public display giving the community its first look at what will be a unique building, reflecting the local environment, landscape and the Peel River. The new building will be constructed on the old velodrome site in Peel Street.
Mr Anderson said he was thrilled that the project is progressing, as it will deliver a vibrant new education campus for Tamworth with multi-purpose facilities to support teaching, research, and collaboration.
“The construction of a new campus will unlock jobs for the New England region, and once built, will play a crucial role in educating our workforce and driving innovation, benefitting the future careers of thousands of students in Tamworth and beyond.
“It’s an exciting project because it will mean students of all ages will no longer have to leave our region to gain a university education.
“I am very keen to stop the brain drain to other centres. The rapid change in the nature of almost all industries and businesses will require higher levels of professional and technical qualifications to be globally competitive and we need to be in that mix. We have the talent, and we need to unlock the potential.”
Development approval is expected soon with construction to start early 2024 and completion 2025.
