NSW Nationals Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh has announced a $28,327 grant for Sawtell Surf Club to develop a multi-purpose community hub.
Mr Singh said the Community Building Partnership program will help the club refurbish a multipurpose room to provide a vital training, education and club/community activities space.
“Sawtell Surf Club wants to provide inclusive facilities, services and programs to meet the growing needs of the local community. This upgrade will provide essential space for shared community use, training, education and social interaction,” Mr Singh said.
“The project removes existing limitations on member and community participation in club activities – the club will be able train more members, expand participation in water safety, offer/hire the facility to local community groups and improve recruitment.”
Sawtell SLSC has been a community icon since 1932 and it currently has 520 members, including 140 nippers.
Mr Singh said the Community Building Partnership program is providing $300,000 to 17 projects across the Coffs Coast.
“This grassroots funding will directly help create more vibrant and inclusive communities with positive social, environmental and recreational outcomes,” Mr Singh said.
“Now a decade old, the Community Building Partnership program has funded more than 13,800 community projects in NSW since it began in 2009.”
