Nationals Member for Monaro John Barilaro has announced more than $69,900 in funding to help Queanbeyan Multilingual Centre purchase a new mini-bus, deliver targeted grassroots support in response to COVID-19, and address the needs of the most vulnerable in the region.
Mr Barilaro said the funding was thanks to a number of grants from the NSW Nationals in the state government and would help Queanbeyan Multilingual Centre continue to deliver crucial services throughout Queanbeyan and the broader region.
“It is great to join Queanbeyan Multilingual Centre to announce funding thanks to the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership Program, Social Sector Support Fund and Empowering and Supporting Local Communities Program,” Mr Barilaro said.
“This region is well known for its diversity and I know how important community organisations like Queanbeyan Multilingual centre are for new members of our community.
“For more than 30 years the centre has done an outstanding job helping our linguistically diverse community and I know this funding will provide a huge boost for them.”
Queanbeyan Multilingual Centre Director Zakia Patel said the funding would help the organisation purchase a mini-bus and continue delivering support to locals as the region recovers from COVID-19.
“We provide a range of support to the community including direct one-to-one support, group sessions, life skills development, family relationship support and community activities including social, recreational and sports, as well as community development for communities,” Ms Patel said.
“Thank you to the NSW Government for this funding which will ensure we can continue to deliver these important services.”
Queanbeyan Multilingual Centre received $18,000 through the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership Program, $25,000 from the Social Sector Support Fund and $26,950 thanks to the Empowering and Supporting Local Communities Program.
