Young people in Walgett will soon have the PCYC facility they deserve thanks to the NSW Nationals in the state government.
NSW Nationals Upper House MP Sam Farraway announced the funding to deliver vital upgrades to the facility during his tour of Western NSW.
Mr Farraway said the NSW Nationals in the state government were committed to delivering a vibrant and exciting new PCYC space to support the needs of families in the remote northern NSW community. The funds build on an existing $6 million from the government and will help to pay for a 2435 square metre building with basketball court, a gymnastics space, gym, youth hub and council meeting rooms, kitchen facilities and outdoor area.
“The NSW Nationals in the state government have heard the community of Walgett, they have wanted to deliver a better facility for young people living locally, and so I am delighted to confirm a further $1 million to make the new Walgett PCYC a reality,” Mr Farraway said.
“We know, from our engagement with young people, teachers and youth workers and advocacy groups that access to quality facilities and programs through local PCYCs is one way to help youth feel engaged and empowered, and to help them succeed.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the NSW Nationals in the state government were rolling out the big and small infrastructure projects regional communities need.
“From the $1.7 billion Regional Growth Fund to the $4.2 billion Snowy Hydro Fund, this government is pouring billions into projects that support industry growth and the creation of jobs, which in challenging times, help to keep economies afloat,” Mr Barilaro said.
“At the same time, we’re delivering smaller infrastructure projects, from playgrounds, to toilets, to swimming pools, that make communities great places to be.
“I thank Amanda and the team at the Walgett PCYC as well as Walgett Shire Council for their commitment to giving local youth a better place to play and congratulate them on this funding win.”
