MICHAEL KEMP

Member for Oxley

Michael was born in Kempsey to a sixth generation farming family and has lived in the Oxley region most of his life. He had a dream of playing AFL professionally and spent his final year of High School in Adelaide in the hope of launching that career.

After school, Michael joined the military – initially in the Infantry and then the Air Force, where he served as a communication electronics technician. He was employed overseas on there occasions, firstly to East Timor, and then to the Iraq theatre. The military is also where Michael met his wife Brigitte, and now they have three young sons.

When he left the Air Force, Michael went to the University of Newcastle, and upon graduating started his own physiotherapy business which has grown to be one of the largest allied health companies on the Mid-North Coast.

Michael has served with the RFS in both the local brigade and as part of a remote firefighting team.

He was named 2021 Australia Day Macleay Valley Volunteer of the Year for his work in building shelters for fire victims, and has organised a whole range of local sporting events.

Michael believes in giving back to the community he belongs to.
