NSW Nationals Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead joined members of the Pacific Palms Surf Lifesaving Club (SLSC) to announce more than $283,000 in funding thanks to the NSW Nationals in the state government’s Surf Club Facility Grant program.
Mr Bromhead said the significant funding injection will see the surf club’s back deck replaced.
“The timber deck is in urgent need of work, now close to 30 years old and suffering from rotting timbers, it’s on its way to posing a major safety risk,” said Mr Bromhead.
“These funds will allow the club to replace the deck with concrete and steel avoiding future issues of wood rot.”
Jerrad Allen, president of the Pacific Palms SLSC, said the funding came at a crucial time as the global pandemic dried up income streams.
“We’ve faced a major downturn in income as COVID-19 saw functions hiring the clubhouse and sporting events canned,” Mr Allen said.
“This grant has lifted some weight from our shoulders by ensuring we can replace the deck before it threatens both members and patrons safety.”
