Nationals Member for Myall Lakes Tanya Thompson is encouraging local rural landholders still dealing with large or hazardous debris from the May 2025 flood event to register for a new clean-up project.
The NSW Environment Protection Authority’s Rural Land Flood Debris Clean-up Project will provide approved debris removal at no cost to eligible landholders, including those in the MidCoast Council area.
Mrs Thompson said the assistance would be welcome for local families and farmers continuing the difficult task of recovery.
“The May 2025 floods caused devastation across our community, and many rural landholders are still facing the cost and hard work of cleaning up their properties,” Mrs Thompson said.
“Large items such as silage bales, gas bottles, fuel tanks, and metal sheeting can be dangerous to handle and expensive to remove.
“For landholders already managing repairs, damaged fences, and disruption to their livelihoods, this is another burden they should not have to carry alone.
“This project offers practical help, and I encourage anyone with flood debris still on their rural property to check their eligibility and register.”
The project covers large or hazardous human-made debris left on private rural properties following ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in March 2025 and the severe weather in May 2025.
The EPA will assess registrations for eligibility. Eligible landholders will then be contacted by a specialist contractor to arrange a site inspection, develop a debris removal plan and undertake approved works.
“Recovery does not end when the floodwaters recede. Our community needs ongoing support to get properties safe and productive again,” Mrs Thompson said.
“If you need help accessing information or registering, please contact my electorate office.”
