The concept design for the Gunnedah Hospital redevelopment has been unveiled, providing the community with its first look at the new $53 million health facility.
Nationals Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the artist’s impression showcases the redevelopment including the hospital’s new main entry which has been designed to significantly improve access – a key issue raised by the community.
“It was great to see more than 900 people provide feedback during the consultation phase on the masterplan. As you can see from this artist impression, the NSW Government has taken that feedback on board to ensure the hospital best meets the region’s needs now and into the future,” Mr Anderson said.
“As we move forward with this important project, the community still has a key role to play.
“This next stage of planning is a great opportunity for our community to contribute their priorities for this modern healthcare facility, which is being designed to create a welcoming and culturally respectful space for patients, staff and our local community.”
The Gunnedah Hospital redevelopment will deliver a new acute services building on the existing hospital site to house services including emergency, medical imaging, maternity, birthing and the inpatient unit, as well as administration. Community health and outpatient clinics will be housed in the fully refurbished building.
Nationals Minister for Regional Health Bronnie Taylor said the facility will also feature contemporary models of care, including more community-based and outpatient support.
“Importantly, all current health services will remain locally in Gunnedah, while new infrastructure for renal dialysis and chemotherapy is being delivered as part of the redevelopment to ensure the region has the health services it needs and deserves,” Mrs Taylor said.
The project team are now inviting staff and community members to participate in a survey on the concept design to further progress the planning and design.

The Gunnedah Hospital redevelopment is part of the NSW Nationals in the state government’s record $10.8 billion investment in health infrastructure over four years to 2024-25, with nearly a third of the capital allocation in this financial year going towards regional and rural health facilities.
Since 2011, the government has delivered more than 170 hospitals and health facilities across NSW, with more than 110 currently underway – of those, more than 70 are in rural and regional areas.
