State Nationals MP for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has expressed deep disappointment at the announcement that K Hub, the replacement for Target in Cowra, will no longer be opening.
Ms Cooke said the impact of the closures of Target stores in the region has been significant, and the K Hub announcement is another blow to the local community.
“I have written to the corporate affairs manager of Kmart, requesting this decision be reviewed by Wesfarmers in the best interests of their local staff and the Cowra community more broadly,” Ms Cooke said.
“I have expressed my frustration towards the decision, especially given the considerable investment the NSW government provided to Cowra Shire Council’s upgrade of the carpark at the rear of the premises. The project was undertaken to support the longevity of the retail sector in Cowra.”
Ms Cooke said the decision not to proceed with a K Hub in Cowra will leave a substantial hole in the heart of the Cowra C.B.D, as has also been the case in Young, Temora, and Cootamundra when the decision when the decision was made to close their Target stores.
“I firmly believe this is showing very little regard for small, but local, regional communities by Wesfarmers,” Ms Cooke said.
“I support Cowra Shire Council and the Cowra Business Chamber in their fight to have this decision reversed.”
