Leaders past and present come together in Port Macquarie as the NSW Nationals hold their first Annual General Conference since 2019.
New federal Leader David Littleproud was joined by former leaders Barnaby Joyce, Michael McCormack, and the Hon Ian Sinclair.
Mr Sinclair was the Deputy Leader of the federal Parliamentary Country Party from 1971 to 1982, deputy leader of the federal National Party from 1982 to 1984, then leader of the Nationals from 1984-89.
However his political career started in the NSW Legislative Council.
He resigned from there in October 1963 to contest the federal division of New England.
He was elected to the House of Reps, then re-elected in 1966, 1969, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1980, 1983, 1984, 1987, 1990, 1993 and 1996.
He retired prior to the 1998 general election.
Mr Sinclair was the Deputy Leader of National Party from 1971-1984, and Leader of the House of Representatives from 1975-1979 and again from 1980-1982.
He is a Life Member of NSW Nationals – an honour richly deserved.
We thank him for joining us today in Port.
