Nationals Member for Page, Kevin Hogan, has slammed the Minns Labor Government for cancelling yet another contract with a local business.
For more than 40 years, Richmond Waste has been providing services to the local health district, but not anymore.
Mr Hogan said previously, businesses could tender for contracts that would cover just the local health area, but they’re now expected to service a much larger part of the state.
“This is only possible for large multi-nationals. That means the Labor Government is giving the contracts to large multi-national companies over our local businesses. Shame on them.”
The decision to cancel the Richmond Waste contract comes just days after Labor dumped South Lismore’s Hutley Bros. Butchery from supplying local hospitals.
Hutley’s is a family-owned and operated business that’s been in the local community for 144 years.
Mr Hogan said Hutley’s has had a long-standing contract to supply meat to health facilities across the whole health district, and the decision to dump them will have a massive impact.
“It is another kick in the guts to a business who just reinvested in our town, spending a lot of money to reopen after the floods,” Mr Hogan said.
“The majority of meat used for this contract was supplied from local wholesalers and processors. This cancellation has serious flow on affects for this business, our local meat workers, and beef farming families,” he said.
“It is another shameful decision by a city-centric government that clearly doesn’t care for our community.”
The decisions to dump Hutley Bros and Richmond Waste came after Labor and NSW Health also scrapped Norco as the milk supplier to hospitals from Port Macquarie to Tweed.
