The NSW Nationals are urging regional communities to sign the “No Fake Poles” petition to stop the costly and environmentally harmful transition of 1.3 million hardwood power poles to more expensive fibreglass composite poles.
Nationals Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh said the NSW Government made a hasty decision to transition from hardwood power poles to composite poles effective immediately.
“There is still time to overturn this decision, and we need you to sign and share the petition today,” Mr Singh said.
“This abrupt decision has already led to increased electricity prices for families and businesses across the Coffs Coast, with the Australian Energy Regulator predicting further hikes of $39 for households and $84 for businesses over the next five years.
“The transition to composite poles is a significant factor driving up these costs, hitting the regions hard during an already challenging cost-of-living crisis.”
Mr Singh said hardwood power poles are not only more affordable, but are also more sustainable and environmentally friendly, playing a critical role in our energy infrastructure.
“By signing the ‘No Fake Poles’ petition, you can help overturn this snap decision, keeping power prices down, and ensuring our energy network remains both cost-effective and environmentally responsible,” he said.
“Join us in protecting regional NSW from unnecessary price increases and support the continued use of renewable hardwood poles in our energy infrastructure.”
