The health sector in Mudgee and the wider Mid-Western region has received a major boost, with the new Mudgee Hospital being handed over to the Western NSW Local Health District.
NSW Nationals Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders said construction on the $70.7 million facility was due for completion at the end of the month, and final fit-out, exterior works and landscaping were underway.
“Mudgee Hospital is one of the health projects that has been fast-tracked as a part of the COVID-19 response, and today is symbolic because it means we are one step closer to this part of the electorate having a brand new hospital,” he said.
“Signicant amounts of money are being spent in Mudgee and Dubbo building and upgrading hospitals because we want the people in our region to have access to the modern health facilities they deserve.
“I’m delighted to have seen this new hospital develop and grow through every stage, right up to this point where it’s now being handed over to the LHD to start preparing for the ocial opening at the end of the month.”
Western NSW LHD chief executive Scott McLachlan said the handover was a big step forward for the region’s health sector.
“It’s a very exciting time for both the sta of the Mudgee Health Service and the wider Mudgee community,” Mr McLachlan said.
“This redevelopment will help ensure the hospital continues to provide highquality healthcare for decades to come for the Mudgee region.”
The $70.7 million Mudgee Hospital Redevelopment will include an emergency department and ambulatory care, a maternity unit, general medical and surgical units, a peri-operative service, as well as oral health, renal dialysis and oncology services.
