The first stage of the upgrade to the accommodation at Yanco Agricultural High School will begin this year.
NSW Nationals Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell and Duty MLC for Murray Wes Fang announced planning for an upgrade to the boarding facilities at Yanco would begin by the end of the school year.
Ms Mitchell said Yanco holds a special place in NSW public education as one of four public specialist agricultural high schools in the state, and the only rural school to offer boarding places to female students.
“I’m pleased the NSW Nationals in the state government have committed to planning for an upgrade of the dorms at Yanco,” Ms Mitchell said.
Mr Fang was delighted the NSW Nationals in the state government had committed to the planning for the accommodation, thus securing the future of Yanco Agricultural High School for many years to come.
“I invited the Minister to Yanco earlier this year and we both toured the school. Together, we agreed on the need for this upgrade and have worked to ensure the NSW Nationals in the state government started the process of that upgrade,” Mr Fang said.
The school, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2022, has a key role in attracting and retaining regional and rural students, particularly young women, to the agriculture industry.
“Yanco provides education in AgSTEM practices, driving future innovation and interest in the agricultural sector,” Mr Fang said.
“I want our public boarding students to benefit from the best facilities possible. These upgrades will encourage more students to live and learn in regional NSW.”
