The NSW Nationals believe in access to healthcare as an inalienable right of all people living in New South Wales.
We strive towards creating a system that delivers the highest possible care and diversity of services, while remaining accessible and affordable for regional and remote Australians.
Our principles for ensuring a healthier New South Wales
Regional health services are to be given equal consideration in government’s resource distribution with metropolitan areas. Acknowledging the government’s responsibility in bridging the disparity between these areas’ health outcomes.
A cooperative relationship between local, state, and federal governments is essential to delivering better regional health outcomes. Coordination is particularly pertinent in this area, as many regional services combine government jurisdictions posing unique challenges that cannot be addressed unilaterally at any level.
The New South Wales healthcare system must accommodate the growing and aging population of regional New South Wales, remaining agile as demand continues to rise.
The NSW Nationals strive to strike a balance in the delivery of regional health services by both public and private sector, as dictated by their suitability on a case-by-case basis.
Incentives that attract and retain health professionals in the regions must continue to be implemented to ensure under serviced regions are not left without.
Staff shortages are magnified in regional areas. The NSW Nationals will vehemently oppose any measures that may compound this issue.
Regional patients are unique and should be considered independently of larger state health policy. For this reason, these decisions should be presided over by a Regional Health Minister with the requisite experience to address these challenges.
Local consultation is the backbone of driving successful policy outcomes.
Regional, rural, and remote people have access to travel assistance in the event of not having readily accessible local medical care.
