Deputy Leader of The Nationals
“The politics I represent is not about left or right. It is about the people of the Coffs Harbour electorate having access to the same services and the same opportunities as someone living elsewhere in the state. I’m your voice in Sydney and I’m proud we’re working together to build an even better community.”
Gurmesh Singh has been the NSW Nationals’ Member for Coffs Harbour since being elected in the March 2019 General Election.
He is a third-generation Coffs local whose great grandfather came to Australia from India in 1895 to, in Gurmesh’s words in his inaugural speech, “seek opportunity on the other side of the world.”
Gurmesh attended Woolgoolga Public and High Schools, where he graduated as Dux, before studying Industrial Design at the University of NSW in Sydney and working in industries including advertising. In 2009 Gurmesh and his wife Manni decided to return home to Woolgoolga.
In 2018 he was preselected as The Nationals’ candidate for Coffs, and was elected in March 2019, taking over from Andrew Fraser, who’d held the seat for more than 28 years.
