Twenty-four-hour access to the Mudgee PCYC gym will soon become a reality thanks to $26,417 in funding secured by NSW Nationals Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders.
The funding, obtained through the NSW Nationals in Government’s Community Building Partnership program, will allow the installation of a security access entry for 24-hour gym activities.
Mr Saunders said the upgrades will give members the ability to get to the gym when it suits them – when COVID-19 restrictions allow.
“With different industries like mining around Mudgee, many workers are unable to access the gym during regular hours,” Mr Saunders said.
“These improvements will allow them to get the physical fitness fix they need.
“I am looking forward to the time we get past this pandemic which is affecting all parts of our community. We need to be providing this sort of activity as soon as we possibly can. It is really important for both mental and physical health.”
Mudgee PCYC manager Railene Doherty said she was excited to have something to look forward to once the COVID-19 restrictions had eased.
“Once we have council approval we will be looking to engage local tradespeople to complete the works, in the hope that it will be completed by the time we get through this, or soon after,” she said.
