Christmas has come early for the Dalgety Show with Nationals Member for Monaro John Barilaro announcing $30,000 for the purchase of new sheep yards to host the Monaro Working Dog Championships.
Mr Barilaro said the Dalgety Show was one of the best country shows in the region and congratulated the committee on its hard work to deliver the event.
“Dalgety is one of the biggest days on the local calendar and is personally one of my favourite shows in the Monaro. Each year the show welcomes hundreds of visitors from across NSW and Victoria through its gates,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The Monaro Working Dog Championships is a highlight of the day with locals showing off their skills, but the committee have been in desperate need of new sheep yards to properly cater for the growing competition.
“I am thrilled to announce funding today for the committee to purchase new yards and deliver this amazing event at their 2022 show.”
Mr Barilaro also encouraged local shows to apply for funding under the NSW Government’s $5 million Country Shows Support Package.
“It has been a very tough few years for our local shows with drought, bushfires, storms, floods and COVID-19 disrupting plans, but as they say, the show must go on and these grants will help make that happen,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Local shows are the heartbeat of our region, from dachshund racing in Bungendore to sheep dog championships in Dalgety shows bring our communities together and celebrate what makes each town unique.”
Funding can be used for a range of reasons, including ensuring shows are COVID-Safe, subsidising stall fees, equipment hire, upgrading show facilities or engaging locally based artists or musicians.
Funding of up to $15,000 will be available to small shows with an audience of less than 2,000 people across all event days, while medium and large shows can apply for up to $30,000 and $45,000 respectively.
Applications are now open and close on Friday, April 29, 2022, or when funding is exhausted.
The Dalgety Show will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
