More than $263,000 in funding has been secured to install LED lighting at Jerrabomberra’s Halloran Oval, thanks to the NSW Nationals in the state government’s Regional Sport Facility Fund.
Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro John Barilaro has described the grant as a game changer for the Queanbeyan Tigers AFL club.
“Not only will it improve safety for our up-and-coming players but it will encourage more youngsters to take up AFL,” Mr Barilaro said.
“By installing LED lighting at the oval, it will mean our budding stars have more hours to train and play the game they love so much.
“Halloran Oval is an extremely popular sporting field in our region and I’m proud the NSW Nationals in the state government are delivering this much-needed upgrade for the community.”
The grant is part of Round 1 of the NSW Nationals in the state government’s Regional Sport Facility Fund which will see $50 million awarded over two years for new and upgraded sports facilities in Regional NSW.
Queanbeyan Tigers Juniors Administrator Lynne McKenzie thanked the NSW Nationals in the state government for their support, saying the club is very excited about the improvements.
“This will be a huge boost for our club’s younger members,” Ms McKenzie said.
“Our junior teams have been restricted because the training fields have not had lights, and this funding will mean our younger players can complete a full training session safely.”
