Roads and Maritime Services will use feedback received from the Wagga Wagga community to inform options to improve safety at the Sturt Highway and Murray Street intersection.

Locally-based NSW Nationals MLC Wes Fang said the NSW Government was providing funding under the State Blackspot Program to develop potential options to improve safety at the busy intersection.

“Roads and Maritime asked the community for their input to get a feel for what residents and motorists consider the most important issues to tackle,” Mr Fang said. “From the more than 560 responses, issues such as poor sight distance were raised, together with concerns that any improvements would consider access for residents, businesses, emergency vehicles, heavy vehicles and at the hospital, parking and congestion.”

NSW Nationals candidate for Wagga Wagga, Mackenna Powell, welcomed the announcement.

“Road safety is obviously a concern at this location given it’s an urban area, freight route and leads directly to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and the medical epicentre of Wagga Wagga,” Ms Powell said. “I look forward to reviewing the potential options to help improve safety at this busy intersection.”
