Four young Tamworth Gymnasts have been honoured for their outstanding achievement representing New South Wales at the 2018 Australian Gymnastics Championships.
NSW Nationals Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the four athletes had been presented with the NSW Government State Representative Award in recognition of their success.
“What a fantastic honour it is to represent your state in any sport and to begin your rep career from Tamworth is very special,” Mr Anderson said. “So well done to Maisie Wilde, Josie Douglas, Paige Seaton and Amber Downes.”
Maisie and Amber represented NSW at the National Titles in Melbourne in all apparatus. Amber made the final in a great personal effort.
Paige and Josie were in the Border Challenge team competing against all other states with Josie winning gold in the vault and Paige second overall in the preliminary rounds.
“Tamworth Gymnastics Club have developed so many fine young athletes and their recent Country Capital Cup competition attracted 975 gymnasts along with their families and supporters,” Mr Anderson said. “This event is estimated to have generated our city more than $1.6 million over the four days. This is such good news for the club and the city.”
