Thomas George MP

Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly

Member for Lismore

Renowned among his constituents as a dedicated and loyal representative, Thomas George was first elected as Member for Lismore in 1999 but his record of devotion and service to his community began many years before.

Thomas has been involved with a vast amount of local initiatives and groups for over 30 years. He began his professional career with the Rural Bank before co-founding a stock & station and real estate agency.  His community involvement has included President of the Casino RSM Rugby League Club & Casino Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc, Director of the Northern Regional Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter, Our House Cancer Accommodation Lismore and Northern Co-operative Meat Co. He is a Life Member of the Australian Livestock and Property Association and Casino Beef Week Promotion Committee, of which he was also the inaugural Chairman in 1990.

Since being elected to State Parliament, Thomas has worked hard delivering for the people of the Lismore electorate.  As a member of The Nationals, he has spent time as the Party’s spokesperson on Rural Crime and Energy & Ports in the Lower House and has previously been a member of the Coalition Advisory Social Development Committee, Nationals Agricultural Committee and Nationals Small Business Committee. During his time in Parliament, he has also sat on the STAYSAFE Committee, Decentralisation Taskforce, Legislative Assembly Committee on Environment and Regulation and Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Thomas was appointed Nationals Whip in 2003 a position he held until 2011 before he became the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly – a role he continues to perform.
