A lawyer and former police officer has been preselected as The Nationals Candidate for Cowper ahead of the next federal election.

Born and raised in Kempsey, Patrick Conaghan has practised law for the past 18 years and has run his own successful practice for 16 years. Before becoming a lawyer, Patrick was a police officer for 12 years, working in Kempsey for three years before being transferred to Sydney as a detective for five years. The final four years of his service was as a Police Prosecutor with the Prosecuting Branch in NSW.

From 2003 to 2007, Patrick served as a councillor on North Sydney Council, but the country called to him and five years ago he moved his young family to Port Macquarie.

“The communities that make up the electorate of Cowper, the unique and diverse surrounds and people, this is home for us,” Mr Conaghan said. “The people of this electorate deserve someone who has a connection with the area and who is passionate about not only protecting the region but also promoting it.”
