Paul Toole has been re-elected as the NSW Nationals Candidate for Bathurst as the regional city continues to boom. Since 2011, Paul has served communities in the Bathurst Electorate, keeping locals close to his heart even as he worked first as Local Government Minister and now as Minister for Lands and Forestry and the Minister for Racing.

Last week, Paul was joined by Minister for Corrections David Elliott to turn the sod on a new 220-bed wing of Bathurst Correctional Centre, providing jobs and growth as the Nationals in Government continue to crack down on crime. Site establishment works will start in late August and construction is expected to be complete by late 2020.

He also announced a second circuit for Mount Panorama – a $50 million project – of which the Nationals in Government would contribute $15 million. Not only will the second circuit mean racing 52 weeks a year, it will also see the return of motorcycle racing to the regional city, which is sure to drive the local economy.

As an effective member of the Nationals in Government, Paul Toole has also championed common-sense policies, including the Sydney roll-out of regional hotel safety campaign “Ask For Angela” and supporting the construction of a major animal shelter to help find homes for needy pets.

The Minister for Racing also got a win for regional thoroughbreds across the line, with a new $1.3 million race for country-trained horses called The Kosciuszko. The race, to be run on Everest Day at Royal Randwick on October 13, will be the world’s richest country race with $1.3 million prizemoney on offer.

Sam Farraway, Chairman of the Bathurst State Electoral Council, advised only one nomination was received for pre-selection and members voted unanimously for Paul Toole MP to once again represent the NSW Nationals.

Paul thanked members for once again entrusting him to seek election as the Member for Bathurst; a role, though challenging at times, he thoroughly enjoyed.

“Elections are always hard work and I look forward to the challenge of being re-elected for a third term,” he said.

Congratulations to Bathurst’s own Paul Toole MP, a fine member of our great Party and one that continues to deliver both for his constituents and the people of Regional NSW.
