Regional communities, including in the Dubbo electorate, can now apply for $1 million worth of grants to deliver events that attract visitors and provide an economic boost to local businesses.
The NSW Nationals in Government, through Destination NSW, have opened the Regional Event Fund as part of the $10 million Tourism Recovery package through two streams: the Flagship Event Fund and a new Micro Event Fund.
NSW Nationals Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders encouraged local event organisers, associations, local government authorities and community groups to apply for the grants.
“A diverse and comprehensive event calendar will give tourism in the regions a real boost by motivating people from outside the area to visit and see for themselves why towns like ours are so special,” Mr Saunders said.
“The visitor economy is so important to many local businesses in our electorate, so this is a great opportunity to attract visitors who will put heads on beds, fill our cafes and restaurants and support local retailers.
“The Destination NSW Regional Event Fund supports all kinds of sports, arts, cultural and lifestyle events, large and small, so I encourage all potential event organisers to put their ideas forward for consideration.”
The two funding streams now open will offer:
- Flagship Event Fund – grants of $20,000 to support event marketing activities to attract visitors from outside their regions and drive tourism.
- Micro Event Fund – one-off grants of $10,000 to community-based events in bushfire or drought-affected areas with total operating budgets of $75,000 or less that have the capacity to bring together local communities, attract visitation and stimulate local economies.
