The Hay Branch of the NSW Nationals had a successful annual general meeting on Thursday night, with office bearers elected and a vision to grow the membership.
Like many across the State, the Hay Branch re-formed after years of inactivity as members came together to counter the growing threat of Labor and the minor parties.
Gordon Turner was returned as Branch Chairman while Phyllis Jones was elected Secretary, according to Mrs Jones.
“It wasn’t a bad meeting,” she said on Friday. “The Branch re-formed, that was the main discussion, we said we’d like to see more of (Member for Murray) Austin Evans and we talked about what we’re going to do.”
Mrs Jones has long been a member and active supporter of our Party in Hay, working on polling booths and getting involved in the community while helping run the family business.
“You’ve got to do something, you can’t just sit around and say what’s wrong with everything, that doesn’t help anybody.”
It’s like the old saying: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
