Fourth-generation farmer Gurmesh Singh has been chosen as the NSW Nationals Candidate for Coffs Harbour. A born-and-bred Coffs Harbour local whose family has lived in the region for generations, Gurmesh is also the chairman of Oz Group Co-Op.

“The Nationals through Andrew Fraser have done great things for our region and as the father of two young boys, I want to make sure there’s a bright and prosperous future ahead,” Mr Singh said. “I think it’s important to be involved in the political process to create change for a better world, and to maintain our values and quality of life. I will focus all of my energy to ensure The Nationals are re-elected in Coffs Harbour.”

Gurmesh worked in business and advertising before returning to the Coffs Coast with his wife in 2009 to be closer to family. He wants to make sure services keep up with population growth, and wants to see sensible development in the region.

NSW Nationals Chairman Bede Burke paid tribute to retiring MP Andrew Fraser and said it was important that the people of the region continued to have a strong voice in Parliament.

“Gurmesh has already demonstrated a commitment to the community and has a desire to work hard for the people of the Coffs Harbour Electorate,” Mr Burke said. “The Nationals are from the regions and for the regions, and it’s important we continue to have a strong voice in Parliament. I’m confident Gurmesh will be another strong Nationals MP that will work hard, as Andrew Fraser did for many years.”

Long-serving Nationals Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser, who will retire at next year’s election, said he looked forward to helping get Mr Singh elected.

“Congratulations to Gurmesh Singh, the NSW Nationals candidate for Coffs Harbour,” Mr Fraser said. “I look forward to assisting Gurmesh over the coming months to make sure he is elected as the next Member for Coffs Harbour in Government.”
