NSW Nationals Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh has turned the sod on the new $10.7 million specialist trades facility at TAFE NSW Coffs Harbour.

The works are delivering on the Nationals in Government’s plan to ensure TAFE NSW is well-equipped for the future so it can continue to deliver high quality, industry relevant and innovative training that leads to jobs in regional communities.

“I’m delighted the NSW Government is strongly focused on expanding training opportunities in our region, backed by this multi-million-dollar investment,” Mr Singh said. “When completed, the specialist trades facility will deliver 200 new training places and significantly expand trades training opportunities on the Mid North Coast.”

“This is yet another demonstration of how the Nationals in Government are delivering for Coffs Harbour.”

The CHEC Trades Hub will open up opportunities in key areas of skills demand not previously available in Coffs Harbour, such as electrical trades.

Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education Dr Geoff Lee said this multi-million-dollar investment in education, along with the $3.2 million Coffs Harbour Connected Health Hub set to kick off next month, was a boon for the region.

“I am very excited to announce the start of work as the NSW Government continues to enable TAFE NSW to grow as a world-class, innovative and flexible public provider that is delivering the new technologies and skills to support the NSW economy,” Dr Lee said. “These new state-of-the-art facilities will equip students with the job-ready skills local employers are calling for here in Coffs Harbour, so there has never been a better time to skill up at TAFE NSW.”

The Nationals in Government are investing $137 million to support 17 major capital works projects at TAFE NSW in 2019-20. The CHEC Trades Hub is scheduled for completion in late 2020 and will be open to students on the first teaching day of 2021.
