The smoke is slowly dissipating over the Port Macquarie-Hastings region following serious bushfires over the past few weeks, and the community of Lake Cathie are preparing to thank the volunteers of the Rural Fire Service and the other agencies involved during the emergency.
Residents of Lake Cathie, Bonny Hills and Lake Innes are beginning to understand just how fortunate they were that there was no loss of property or life when the fires raged so close to their homes, thanks to the hard work of RFS volunteers, Fire and Rescue NSW, SES and Police.
The Lake Cathie-Bonny Hills Lions Club, the Lake Cathie Progress Association and Revive Lake Cathie will stage a Community Thank You event on Sunday, November 17 starting at 3pm at the Lake Cathie Foreshore Reserve. Activities include a free sausage sizzle and residents are asked to bring along a plate for afternoon tea to share, drinks and a chair or blanket.
Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams has extended an invitation to NSW Minister for Emergency Services David Elliott and RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimons to attend the event.
Local, State and Federal representatives will also be attending to personally thank the emergency services personnel and in particular the volunteers for their efforts.
