Aspiring Dubbo student Ghazan Yousafzai has been chosen as the recipient of the NSW Regional Dentistry Scholarship for this year.

The scholarship, worth $4,800, is sponsored by the Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams and is administered by the National Rural Health Alliance.

Ghazan’s interest in dentistry began in 2013 when he was in Year 11 at Dubbo High School.

He undertook two weeks placement at Dubbo’s CSU Dental and Oral Health Clinic and since that time has completed over two hundred hours of work experience at that Clinic and Wingewarra Dental.

Ghazan said he wants to make a significant impact on improving the dental health and quality of life for people living in rural and remote areas.

He holds a Bachelor of Clinical Science and will study dentistry at the University of Queensland.

Senator Williams has congratulated Ghazan for his commitment to dentistry and wished him well with his studies.

He becomes the tenth student assisted through the NSW Regional Dentistry Scholarship program and Inverell dental practitioner Dr. Stuart Watkins will again mentor the student in his first year, offering advice and guidance.
