XPTs on track to deliver more regional jobs
The new fleet of XPTs are more than on track for delivery in the early 2020s. They are also now carrying an extra load of jobs for the regions. In the assembling process of the new XPTs, NSW will be home to 100 per cent of that process, with the regions getting first preference on the work.
Tenderers for the new fleet will essentially be competing to offer the best possible deal for regional NSW. This will include assembling significant components as well as stabling and maintaining the trains in our areas.
We can look forward to state-of-the-art trains with modern and comfortable seating, dining, sleeping and entertainment options, including the potential for WIFI. They will also include enhanced security, and better access for the elderly and disabled.
Passengers can expect to get to their destinations at faster speeds, for example time savings of more than 1 hour from Wauchope to Sydney. And, they are coming to a town near you earlier than expected because the procurement process is kicking off in the first half of next year, two years earlier than promised!
