On Saturday 7 November Nationals women from across NSW met in Manly for the Women’s Council Annual General Meeting and dinner. Claire Coulton was re-elected Chair for another year and Perin Davey and Ruth Strang stepped down from the Vice Chair positions, making way for Gail Webb from Tamworth and Jessica Price-Purnell from the Metro Branch.

The day got off to a flying start, with Jenny Morris from Women in Elections offering some encouraging and inspirational words. Kelly Foran, Founder of Friendly Faces Helping Hands shared her story of strength and resilience during a series of life-crippling illnesses involving her and her family.

Our hosts Royal Far West updated us on the redevelopment work currently taking place and the continuing task of providing health services to children living in rural and remote New South Wales. Other presentations included previous NSW Nationals State Director and CEO of the Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council Alison Penfold, who provided a deep knowledge of the current live export environment and described her role in the industry.

Manly Pacific Hotel capped off a great day hosting the annual Women’s Council Dinner. Accompanied by a picturesque beach backdrop, guests heard from Cr Christine Forster, Councillor for the City of Sydney, who spoke about women in Local Government and the differing environments of regional and metropolitan councils.

It was another great turnout and we look forward to seeing more women join us next year. If you would like to learn more about the Nationals Women’s Council please visit our website here
