Time to give small business a fair chance

Today at Parliament House the Council of Small Business Australia in conjunction with representatives of the Nationals launched a public campaign ‘Lets Compete : Change the Law’.

It highlights the impact the giants of Australian business have on small business and we all know how that ends.

The small business gets squashed, or if it is successful, is bought out.

We see successful and popular products suddenly appearing on supermarket shelves under their home brand label.

Under the current laws small business in Australia has to fight every day for survival.

The current laws makes it virtually impossible, and exorbitantly costly, to prove there is intent to misuse power.

The Harper review recommended the adoption of an effects test under Section 46 of the Competition and Consumer Act to counter the misuse of market power.

I have advocated for change for many years and I urge Australians to get behind this campaign to save our small businesses in our country towns and cities.
