Supporting our flood affected communities
Communities on the NSW North Coast hit by last month’s devastating floods, continue the task of rebuilding their communities and moving on with their lives.
The NSW Government, with additional support from the Federal Government, to ensure that communities rebuild and recover from the disaster and continue to prosper in what is, undeniably, one of the most beautiful parts of the state.
There are a range of support packages in place to help families and businesses deal with the immediate needs and I encourage residents to use the resources available through the Flood Recovery Committee at local recovery centres to ensure they make the most of government assistance.
I commend local communities for their diligent and active approach to the recovery effort.
It is vital that small businesses which have suffered direct damage from the floods receive the support they need to get back to business and begin to re-activate local economies.
Small businesses in designated areas within Lismore and Murwillumbah can now access funding under the Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements, Category C fund.
For many businesses we know the speedy injection of these funds may be the difference between getting back on their feet or having to close their doors, something we cannot have happen.
To apply for a recovery grant, please phone the NSW Rural Assistance Authority on 1800 678 593 or visit raa.nsw.gov.au.
The NSW Government will continue to work alongside the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) and the major insurers at forums for businesses and residents affected by recent flooding.
The forums, in Lismore and Tweed Heads, will be held this week to assist policyholders with their insurance claims.
The policy holder-only forums will take place on the following dates:
- Lismore: Thursday, April 27, 6-9pm
- Tweed Heads: Friday, April 28, 6-9pm
Once again, I thank the stoic residents and business owners who are rebuilding their lives, along with the emergency services, agencies and volunteers who have supported them – we are with you every step of the way.
