Road safety work completed on New England Highway at Muswellbrook

Michael Johnsen MP, Member for Upper Hunter today announced that road safety is now further improved on the New England Highway east of Bimbadeen Drive at Muswellbrook with essential upgrade work being completed this week.

Mr Johnsen said the NSW Government allocated $5.5 million to upgrade a 1.8 kilometre section of the highway south of Muswellbrook.

“The upgrade involved road strengthening and widening to ensure the road continues to serve our community well into the future and the installation of kerbside barriers to increase road safety,” Mr Johnsen said.

“Stormwater drainage improvements were also carried out to reduce ongoing maintenance costs.

“Work started in August this year and opened to traffic on schedule this week.”

This work is part of the NSW Government’s commitment to improving safety and access to high quality infrastructure for communities in the Upper Hunter and throughout the state.

“Whilst the NSW Government continues to improve the quality of our Upper Hunter Electorate roads, Roads and Maritime Services thank the community for its patience while this essential upgrade work was carried out,” Mr Johnsen concluded.
