The Silver City Highway is now home to the State's first all-weather road airstrip. Now, the Royal Flying Doctor Service will be able to easily utilise the strip of highway to attend emergencies nearby.
The $4.7 million upgrade to the highway at Shannons Creek provides a safe landing place in the far west of NSW, where the nearest hospital can be upwards of a two and a half hour drive away. This solution is safer and far more reliable than what has been available so far – landing on unsealed runways on private properties.
This upgrade is part of the NSW Governments’ recent $30 million investment in fast tracking major sealing works on the Silver City Highway. The program is a welcome addition for local residents who will now have greater access to emergency health care.
