NSW Regional Development Framework to drive further growth

Minister for Regional Development John Barilaro today launched a new Regional Development Framework (RDF) for NSW to further grow regional business confidence, create jobs and encourage business investment.

Minister for Regional Development John Barilaro today launched a new Regional Development Framework (RDF) for NSW to further grow regional business confidence, create jobs and encourage business investment.

Mr Barilaro said the framework was a first-of-its-kind, providing an overall vision across government for regional development, building on previous regional plans and laying a positive platform for the future.

“The NSW Government has a strong record when it comes to delivering for regional areas committing over $13 billion investment in our first term and a further $6 billion in our second term,” Mr Barilaro said.

“Regional NSW is leading the nation on jobs growth with over 56,000 jobs created over the year to June 2016 and regional business confidence is running high.

“The Regional Development Framework launched today will help continue that positive trajectory by helping the Government identify further opportunities that can make a real difference to regional communities.

“It provides visibility and direction so regional communities are able to plan their futures, further demonstrating the commitment of the NSW Government as we build a regional NSW for the future,” Mr Barilaro said.

“Whether you’re a business owner, a young family looking to buy a property or a student looking to start a career, this plan highlights the importance of our regions and reminds us that the future of regional NSW is a great place to live and work.”

The plan includes improved regional governance structures to facilitate regional development, building the evidence-base for investment in regional development, attracting investment and co-investment, and building regional workforce capability.

“We are committed to providing quality services and infrastructure in regional NSW, aligning efforts to support growing regional centres, and identifying and activating economic potential,” Mr Barilaro added.

“We’ll ensure investments maximise growth potential and new jobs in our regions.”
