NSW Government celebrates Yabun Festival

Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Leslie Williams today announced a $10,000 grant to support Yabun Festival 2016. The annual festival held on Australia Day, on the traditional lands of the Gadigal people at Victoria Park in Camperdown is expected to attract thousands of people from across Sydney.

The free festival will feature talented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians from across the country, a Corroboree Ground, arts and crafts workshops, singing and dancing lessons for kids, and sporting activities.

“This year’s festival has attracted some of Australia’s top Aboriginal artists with Aboriginal icon Bart Willoughby headlining along with other great acts such as Radical Son, Yarwah, Drewz, Leah Flanagan and Evie J Willie.

“Yabun is an important festival that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the wider community to come together to embrace and celebrate the history of the world’s oldest living culture through music, arts and conversations,” Mrs Williams said.

“Yabun acknowledges that Australia has an Aboriginal history and celebrates its enduring legacy.

“Events like Yabun truly reflect Reconciliation in action and play a vital role in the community.”

The festival will be streamed live on Koori Radio 93.7FM.  For more information, please visit http://yabun.org.au/.
