Member for Upper Hunter
Michael Johnsen’s family has a long history in the Hunter, dating back to his ancestors, William and Elizabeth Bird, who operated the punt over the river at Morpeth in the mid-nineteenth century.
Michael moved to the area in 1986, working as a dairy hand. He then moved into financial services and in 2001 opened his own financial planning business.
He was elected to Upper Hunter Shire Council in 2008, and was mayor in 2009 and served as Mayor from 2009-2012. He maintains an active involvement in the community, and has held positions in many local sporting clubs and volunteer organisations, including as president of the Scone Rugby League and Apex clubs.
He has been an active member of The Nationals for over 22 years and was a founding member of the Upper Hunter Young Nationals.
Michael is proud to be following the good work of Nationals MP George Souris and believes he can carry on his legacy by sustaining the Upper Hunter as a strong, thriving region. He is passionate and determined to get the best possible deal for this electorate.
