The NSW Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli has welcomed the long-awaited Gonski Review of School Funding.
“We support Gonski’s key view that ‘Every child should have access to the best possible education, regardless of where they live, the income of their family, or the school they attend’,” Mr Piccoli said.
“Australia needs a system of school funding that can lift attainment across schools – public or private. Schools with higher needs should receive additional funds, regardless of what sector they are in.
NSW shuts name change loophole for criminals

Murderers, rapists and other dangerous criminals will not be able to change their name if it would allow them to avoid detection, NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell and Attorney General Greg Smith SC announced today.
Under new laws to be introduced to Parliament this week, an “alert list” of serious offenders will be sent to the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM). Applications from these serious offenders to the BDM without the support of supervising authorities will be rejected.

Member for Monaro John Barilaro has welcomed new figures out today which show the progress of the new Liberal and Nationals Government in NSW.
"Since the NSW Liberals & Nationals were elected, there are 18,000 more jobs in NSW and 38,000 more jobs nation-wide, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics." Mr Barilaro said.
"In other words, NSW has created around half of the nation’s jobs since the Liberals & Nationals were elected."
Pacific highway duplication: first progress report card released

Communities along the Pacific Highway can now easily track the progress being made on the full duplication of the Pacific Highway following today’s release of the first six-monthly Report Card.
NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay and NSW Business Chamber CEO Stephen Cartwright launched the report today.
“Last year the NSW Government committed to producing and releasing regular progress reports in response to calls from the community for greater accountability and transparency,” said Mr Gay.
New commissioner to give border communities a fair go

NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Services Andrew Stoner has today announced the appointment of Steve Toms as the State’s first Cross Border Commissioner.
Mr Toms has wide experience dealing with issues affecting rural and regional communities as a Land Manager working for NSW Parks and Wildlife Service and Forests NSW, and as a Councillor and Mayor for the Glen Innes Severn Council.
“Border communities in NSW have, for the first time in our State’s history, an advocate solely focused on their very unique issues,” Mr Stoner said.
